FUE: The latest, advanced transplant procedure

National Hair Centers was the first hair restoration center in Arizona to offer Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) to patients. The FUE procedure is generally regarded in the industry to be the “Gold Standard.” And, while it is generally considered as the latest advancement, only a few surgeons around the country have mastered it, as it requires the highest level of skill and experience. At NHC, all FUE procedures are performed under the supervision of chief surgeon, Barry Weiss M.D., F.A.C.S.

FUE is a patient friendly alternative to traditional transplant surgery. Traditional transplant surgery requires the surgical removal of strips of skin from the donor area, generally from the back or side of the head. With FUE, the surgeon removes and transplants single follicular units (one to three hairs) at a time, eliminating the need for a surgical incision. The result is less discomfort and a much faster recovery time with no sutures and virtually no scarring.

What is Hair Transplantation?

While there are many surgical procedures for hair loss, hair transplants are the most widely accepted.

Do Hair Transplants Really Work?

Yes, the transplanted hair is removed from the donor area of the head, (usually the back or sides) which is genetically pre-programmed to produce healthy hair for a lifetime. Using magnification, follicular unit grafts containing one, two or three hairs are meticulously transferred into the bald or thinning areas of the recipient site.

The Procedure

Hair transplantation is considered a “minor” outpatient surgery that takes from 3–8 hours. Patients are kept pain-free and comfortable with a gentle oral or IV sedation medication. Within six to eight months, hair transplant patients will begin to experience significant growth.
