Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia

There are, generally speaking, three reasons for hair loss: genetics, nutritional or inflammatory – and it is the same for both males and females.  One condition that we have seen on a more regular basis at National Hair Centers concerning our female clients is Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia. This condition is generally found in post-menopausal women. Some researchers believe it may be a manifestation of advanced stage female pattern hair loss.  There is not a cure as of this date but there are treatments that can slow down the progression of hair loss and one should consult a dermatologist or healthcare provider for the best suggested method suited for them.

Clinical Features of Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia:

  • Consists of thinning hair on the frontal hair line and often involves the eyebrows.
  • The lesions in the early stages sometimes contain individual hairs or tufts of hairs and itching and erythema (redness) can be present.
  • In the later stages, hair can become less dense and the skin becomes paler than the rest of the forehead.

It is in these later stages, when the hair loss has progressed beyond being able to be easily “covered up” or “disguised”, that we will see women come to National Hair Centers. We specialize in the latest non-detectable hair replacement systems for both men and women and have 44 years of experience.  While, it is sometimes possible to purchase a one size fits all hair system to cover frontal fibrosing alopecia, in most cases and for better results, a custom system is required because of the uniqueness of each individual’s frontal hair loss, head size, texture of hair and hair density.

Much like with most forms of genetic hair loss, there is no cure for frontal fibrosing alopecia, but if you want to get your hair looking like it did prior to the onset of this somewhat heart-breaking hair loss condition we can 100% do that for you! ? If you are dealing with this condition or any hair loss issue, please reach out to the hair loss professionals at National Hair Centers.
